Specialty Evaluation Services

Psychological, developmental and educational testing to understand the individual strengths and needs of each child.

Types of Evaluation &  Testing

Children often need a more formal assessment than a standard interview, to better understand their struggles and ensure that they get the best treatment available. We receive referrals to assess learning disorders, developmental delays, emotional and behavioral disorders, neurological injuries, and many more. We offer the following types of evaluations, tailored to the needs of each family.

Diagnostic Evaluations include a thorough Bio-Psycho-Social interview and objective testing of symptoms using parent, child, and sometimes teacher report instruments. The goal is to understand what specific struggles the child is having, how a child’s struggles impact their day-to-day life, and what treatment needs and processes will be most beneficial. Following the Diagnostic Evaluation, the evaluator will connect you and your family with a well-suited clinician to address the identified needs.

Educational testing includes intellectual and academic testing to identify learning disorders, strengths and weeknesses in order to tailor a child’s education to meet their individual needs. Our providers offer specialized skills, often unavaible in the school setting.
Developmental testing includes a thorough assessment of cognitive, language, motor, social and emotional development in comparison to other children of the same age. This type of evaluation is ideal for young children suspected of being behind in one or more areas of development.

Psychological testing and evaluation of children includes assessment of a broad range of cognitive, developmental, behavioral and emotional characteristics in order to identify treatment needs and make diagnostic decisions. Psychological tests are intended to assist school personnel and treatment providers (Primary Care Physicians, Pediatricians, Counselors, and others) by providing diagnostic accuracy and a detailed, objective look at the child’s strengths, as well as needs. They are particularly helpful when complicated or rare problems and symptoms are present. Individualized recommendations for treatment and accommodations are provided.

Neuropsychological assessment provides in depth assessment of neurological functioning in order to identify areas of impairment, the presence neurological injury or to identify areas of specific need for treatment and/or academic accomodation. Neuropsychological assessement are specialized evaluations that require in-depth testing. They are especially useful in cases complicated by medical conditions or neurological injury or trauma.
Parenting assessments measure a variaty of psychological traits as well as parenting attitudes and beliefs known to effect an individual’s capacity to perform child rearing tasks. These are typically peformed during the process of adoption or in cases of suspected abuse or neglect of child.
